Emergency support for migrant workers — confidential, clear and human.

Resources and trusted pathways

Ask early.
Keep the reference.

A clear request helps a support service understand what is happening. Start with immediate safety, then share the essential facts and keep the complaint or case number.

Prepare a clear request

Share enough detail to help—without increasing your risk.

Tell the support service what happened, where you are and what you need now. If the employer or recruiter may be monitoring your device, use a safer phone or account and avoid storing sensitive messages openly.

  • Your name as shown on the passport and a safe callback method
  • Current country, city, worksite and accommodation location
  • Employer and recruiter names, phone numbers and addresses
  • Passport, visa, contract and complaint details when safe to share
  • Immediate danger, injury, medical care or return needs
1

Describe

Use dates, facts and the most urgent issue first.

2

Request

Say what help you need now: safety, wages, documents, medical care or return.

3

Record

Save the case number, office, person contacted and next follow-up date.

4

Escalate

If the situation worsens, update the service and use emergency channels.

Practical questions

Start with the safest next step.

These answers are general guidance. Procedures and enforceable remedies differ by country.

What if I am in immediate danger?

Move to a safe public place if possible and contact local emergency services first. Then contact your embassy, labour authority or trusted worker-support service using a safe phone.

What should I prepare before calling?

Keep your name, safe location, employer, recruiter, passport and contract details ready. Explain the urgent need first and say whether it is safe to call you back.

Where can an Indian worker report a recruiter?

Use the official eMigrate grievance process or contact the Government of India overseas-worker helpline. Keep receipts, advertisements and recruiter messages.

My passport is lost or being withheld. What can I do?

Contact the nearest Indian Embassy or Consulate for guidance. If someone is using threats or confinement, also contact local emergency services when safe.

How can my family help from India?

Family can keep document copies, use MADAD to register or track a consular grievance and share verified facts with the relevant Mission. Avoid public posts that may expose the worker.

How do I follow up on a complaint?

Keep the reference number, date, office and promised response time. Add new facts to the same case where possible and clearly explain any increase in danger or medical need.
