Safer migration, step by step

Pause. Verify.
Protect.

A safer journey begins before the ticket is booked. Verify the job, prepare documents and contacts, and know your choices if the workplace or accommodation becomes unsafe.

Pre-departure checklist

Make the important checks while you still have choices.

For Indian workers, some clearance and insurance requirements apply only to covered passports, destinations and jobs. Confirm your case through official channels.

01

Verify the recruiter

Check current registration through eMigrate. Avoid unregistered agents and sub-agents, and obtain a receipt for every payment.

02

Verify the job

Contact the employer through independently confirmed details. Match the job, worksite and employer to the written offer.

03

Use the correct visa

Travel for work on the correct employment or work visa, not a tourist visa. Complete required clearance before booking when applicable.

04

Read the contract

Confirm pay, hours, overtime, deductions, leave, food, housing, insurance, travel and termination terms.

05

Make secure copies

Keep paper and digital copies of the passport, visa, contract, receipts, tickets, insurance and employer address.

06

Build a contact plan

Save local emergency services, embassy, labour authority, IMWPS and family contacts in more than one place.

Daily protection

Pay attention to what changes after arrival.

Keep records only when it is safe. Immediate health or physical danger comes before documentation.

AT WORK

Know the hazard and the protection.

Ask for training you understand and appropriate protective equipment. Record missing equipment, injuries, unsafe instructions, shifts and overtime.

  • Report urgent hazards early.
  • Seek medical care after injury or exposure.
  • Keep incident and treatment details.

WHERE YOU LIVE

Housing should not trap or endanger you.

Watch for blocked exits, unsafe wiring, severe overcrowding, missing water or sanitation, isolation and restrictions on leaving.

  • Know the nearest safe public place.
  • Keep documents and phone accessible.
  • Tell a trusted person your address.

If something goes wrong

Move toward safety, then explain the problem.

Do not confront a dangerous person alone. Use a safe phone or device if you think yours is monitored.

1

Leave immediate danger

Go to a safe public place, medical facility or trusted person where possible.

2

Call local emergency services

For violence, confinement, a medical emergency, fire or immediate threat.

3

Contact trusted support

Reach your embassy or consulate, labour authority, union or verified worker service.

4

Share essential facts

Your safe location, employer, passport details, medical needs and a safe callback method.
